The "King" of NASCAR
Richard Petty began professional car racing in 1958. During his career he was nicknamed "the King" for winning Daytona 500 and the NASCAR national championship each seven times during 1964-1981. In all, Petty accumulated 200 victories beforen retiring in 1992.
Many things about Richard made him famous: his iconic No 43; the Petty Blue on almost all of his race cars; his trademark smile, mustache, sunglasses, cowboy hat and boots.
If there had been no Richard Petty, someone would have had to invent him as no one has done as much for or meant as much to Stock Car Racing as the man known as "The King"
