Auto World Legends - ARMY Plymouth Cuda NHRA Funny Car (1971, 1/18 scale diecast model car, Blue/Red/White) AW1170

The first Army car Don Prudhomme drove that sported Kenny Youngblood’s iconic Army paint scheme was a short-lived Vega that only ran in the 1974 NHRA Winternationals. The car didn’t do well, and quickly was tested side-by-side with a seasoned 1973 Cuda that previously ran as Prudhomme’s yellow Carefree Gum car which took the 1973 US Nationals crown. When the Cuda came in 2 tenths of a second faster than the Vega, it was transformed into the Army paint scheme just in time for the next race - the NHRA Gatornationals.

The fast switch proved to be a pivotal moment for both the car and Prudhomme’s 1974 season, winning both the Gatornationals and the US Nationals. Prudhomme was also runner-up in the Springnationals. Ultimately the car came full circle, with its last race at the World Finals in Ontario, where the Cuda summed up Prudhomme’s best season at the time. Today the iconic Army Cuda can be seen at Don "Big Daddy” Garlits Museum of Drag Racing.
