A
very brief Superbird history.....The 1970 Plymouth 426 Hemi Superbird
was
one of the wildest muscle cars ever built! Conceived to dominate
on the
NASCAR circuit and developed in the wind tunnel, the outrageous
Superbird
was produced for only one year. NASCAR Homolgamation rules stated
that at
least one production car must be built for each dealer. Plymouth
met the
minimum by building just 1920 Superbirds. Of the 1920 ever built,
only 93 Superbirds
came equipped with the famous and feared muscle car engine of
all time, the 426 Hemi.
The one-two punch of advanced aerodynamics backed up by Hemi power
was a
combination that was a dominant force in NASCAR. Along with it's
cousin, the Dodge
Daytona, the "winged warriors" won over 45% of the NASCAR
races they competed in,
including the 1970 Daytona 500. In response to their dominance,
NASCAR rule changes
in 1971 effectively outlawed the Superbird.
All
the Superbirds feature opening hood, doors and trunk; Hemi engine
with
coolant lines, spark plug wires, and an orange "Hemi"
labeled oval air
cleaner.
The
interior features a pistol grip shifter, seat, dash and door
trim; bucket seats with folding backs, plated window cranks, seat
belt
buckles, and door handles; instrument and radio markings. Exterior
details
include a simulated vinyl roof, authentic factory wheels, white
letter
tires; numerous exterior parts are plated, such as mirrors, door
handles,
hood pins, antenna and bumpers.
On
each side of the rear spoiler and on the nose, you will find the
famous
"Road Runner" caricature. Each chassis is individually
numbered. Good
